Will Ewing, Ph.D.

As a psychodynamic psychologist, I take a warm, collaborative, and depth-oriented approach to therapy. I would describe my style as laid-back, personable, and genuine, and I have found that humor, curiosity, and authenticity are key elements in fostering meaningful change in the therapeutic process. My goal is to join you in your experience while helping you build insight into who you are, the patterns you may find yourself in, and the ways you engage with the world around you. I believe healing happens in the context of relationships, and I strive to create space within our therapeutic relationship where you feel understood, supported, and meaningfully challenged.

I integrate both bottom-up and top-down approaches in therapy. This means I utilize depth-oriented and relational strategies to identify and understand the origins of one’s struggles from the bottom-up in order to address issues at the source, while I also draw from cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), mindfulness, and psychosocial strategies that provide skills which directly address symptoms from the top down. I find that this approach holds, respects, and considers the whole person.

I work primarily with adults, adolescents, and couples navigating a range of concerns, including trauma, interpersonal trauma, relationship issues, anxiety, depression, perfectionism, grief and loss, life transitions, stress, and posttraumatic stress disorder. While psychodynamic theory grounds my practice, I am also trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), which can be especially helpful for trauma-related concerns.
